LCD Problems (Was In praise of SMA) [RE-wrenches]

John:

We had a display that acted up by displaying bars or boxes after it had been
operating for two to three hours. We would return to reinitialize the
system, the display would return to normal showing accumulated hrs, energy,
etc., but the next day, after running for a short while, it would resume its
boxes display.

We called SMA-America and were told that the new displays were being held
hostage by the port lock/out/strike and that we would have to wait until
someone unlocked the west coast. About six weeks later we got our
replacement. When I arrived the at the job site the old unit was behaving
normally, showing all the data and rolling through the numbers appropriately.
I called our customer (an administrator in our local utility) to let him know
that we had made the repair, and he THEN told me that it had been functioning
just fine for two weeks and that he thought we'd already replaced it!

This inverter is never in the sun, plenty of ventilation. Next time a
display goes boxy on me I'll remove and reinstall the same card, and then
wait six weeks....

Thanks for the great job John (and everyone else at SMA). I hope this
information helps.
