Piezo sparking stove [RE-wrenches]

I had a similar problem with our Peerless and an inverter. I wanted
to put a dedicated 24 V inverter on it so we didn't have to pull the
SW out of sleep to start the burners. Jay Peltz got me a cheap little
inverter (maybe he remembers the brand).
When I plugged the stove into the inverter, all four burners sparked,
even though no one was touching the stove knobs and they were all
off. Weird.
I never got a good answer as to why that happened, and we returned
the inverter. I'm all ears for an explanation, and for
recommendations of a small 24 V inverter that won't do that.
