Yes - all of the OutBack inverters include both an AC input for either
grid OR generator power sources and a automatic generator start system.
We do not have dual inputs like the old SW series if that was the
question. If you have both grid and a generator than an external manual
or automatic AC transfer switch is required. We do have separate
programmable AC input setpoints in the inverter for Grid and Gen sources
- but you need to manually tell the MATE which source you are using
(requires hitting three keys on the MATE from anywhere in the menu
system > "AC IN" "Grid or Gen" and then "OK" to return to the same
screen you were on previously).
The AC transfer switch in the FX and VFX inverters is rated at 60 amps @
120 VAC per inverter. When you parallel two inverters it increase to a
total AC pass through capability of 100 amps @ 120 VAC. With four
inverters in a series/parallel configuration it is 100 amps @ 240 VAC
total.
The automatic generator start system in the FX and VFX inverters
provides a 12 vdc output signal on the terminals marked AUX OUTPUT when
the battery voltage hits the adjustable setpoints for an adjustable time
delay period. This system can be used with any two wire (auto cranking)
type generator. Typically you will need to add a small signal relay
that is closed by the 12 vdc signal. For a three wire type generator
you will need to add a "2 to 3 wire adapter" of which several models are
available.
You can also use this generator start system as a "semi-automatic"
generator start system as well. You simple connect a bright red 12 vdc
LED indicator to the AUX output terminals and mount it in a noticeable
location in the residence. Tell them that when the red light is on they
need to conserve power or start the generator. When the red light goes
off they can shut off the generator.
As I mentioned previously, we will be adding a number of additional
features to the automatic generator start system soon - this "advanced"
gen start system will require the MATE system controller and display and
is reverse compatible with all of the previous inverter software
revisions we have shipped.
