Mark,
We have seen 3/4"-7/8" hail with no problem on a number of  T-Max systems
here. Hail, I would bet is moving with more velocity than a walnut, it sure
is falling a lot farther though a walnut could weigh more. I would worry
more about the shading factor on the collector if the tree is that close.
