More wind stuff [RE-wrenches]

I imagine that many of us received the advertising from Aeromag this morning. If you followed the link to the homepage of the distributor and scrolled down to the bottom of the page you saw a couple of photos of a Lakota turbine installed right up against a house, with guys actually attached to the roof. There are also plenty of utility lines in the (very) immediate vicinity; well within the reach of the machine, should it take a notion to bite the dust - throw a blade or otherwise fail catastrophically.

I suppose that some parts of the country enjoy a far more lax approach to personal and property safety than others, but you would hope that common sense would prevail regardless of the location.

AWEA has several pub's. on turbine placement and safety issues that it would behoove dealers of any windturbine to familiarize themselves with before offering their products to the public. This makes sense with any product with the potential for causing injury to the consumer or casual by-stander, particularly in a residential neighborhood, which is apparently the target market for these machines. Here in San Luis Obispo County you can only install a turbine on properties of 1 acre or more, and the tower has to be placed at least a tower's length from any property line. This is not a bad idea.

As in PV equipment, poorly sited and/or installed equipment only contributes bad press.
