Thanks to all for the help prior to site visit.  
I found out much more than I had hoped.  
I will send a field report to anyone who wants, but
its value is only to this system. And it is over 10
pages.

Does anyone know, does the jake 17kW have a continous
field current draw?  If the machine is at rest is the
field current still flowing?  and What is the value of
this current? 2 amps? 1 amp?   When the machine
reaches some output say 5 kW or 10 or 15 kw does the 
field current stop and drop to zero from the
controller?  Or is it supposed to taper to reduce the
charging rate?  

Please help again.
