Hi John

Generally, the symptoms that you are writing about fall into two categories. There is either a gas supply problem such as the gas regulator for the main propane supply system malfunctioning or the wrong orifice size in the burners main jet. Or you have a thermostat problem and the thermostat is not regulating properly.

To test the gas line pressure you will need to get your hands on a manometer and test the gas line pressure at the supply line and at the test point on the fridge it self. The gas pressure should be a maximum of 13.5 inches water column.

An easy way to test a thermostat in the field is to find the capillary tube that comes off of the thermostat and disconnect it from the fridge. The end of the capillary tube will usually be attached to the evaporator fins with a small clip or it will slide up a tube and can simply be pulled out of the tube after you remove the mastic at the beginning of the tube. Once you have the end of the capillary tube away from the unit if you plunge the end into ice water while the fridge is running the burners flame should get noticeably smaller. Inversely if you warm the end of the capillary tube in the palm of your hand the flame should get bigger. That's a quick and dirty test to let you know if the thermostat is functioning. If there is no change in the size of the flame you need to replace the thermostat.

I haven't worked on any of the brand of fridge that you are talking about yet so you may need to talk to the manufacturer to find out the details. I have worked on hundreds of other units and they all work pretty much the same way with minor changes between units and brands.

If you need more help contact me off line or call me at 1-800-200-2372.
