efficient 20 cu' Refrigerator/Freezer [RE-wrenches]

I've never visited Sunfrost's shop, but it looks like they have the same
price/volume problems that every cabinet shop has. In the early 1980s, I bought
and resold onesy-twosey a few hundred Danfoss BD2.5 compressors to
do-it-yourselfers every few months. The BD2.5 retrofitted to the 10 cu ft
Montgomery Ward upright freezer box to make a nice refrigerator. Anyway, two
Danfoss engineers came to California to see what I was doing with all those
compressors. When I told them that there was a big off-grid market for efficient
12VDC refrigerators, they brightened up and asked how many. I said perhaps
2,000/year. They frowned and said that the minimum production run for
refrigerator models was 21,000 units. That was the same year Trojan told me that
they would not sell T-105s at a discount to the solar industry until it was at
least 5% of their total volume. Worldwide PV production has grown a lot in the
past 20 years, but the U.S. off-grid residential market is still too small in
terms of price/volume drivers. Same with inverters, but that's another story.
