hydronic heat system [RE-wrenches]

Although there are many ways to pipe a hydronic heating system
including: primary-secondary loop pumps, a separate pump for each
zone, a single larger pump using thermostat controlled zone valves, or
single pump and manual zone balancing valves, it sounds like your
system uses a separate pump for each zone.

It is possible to rework the piping and replace each zone pump with a
zone valve (depending on how well the separate zones are balanced),
and use a single system pump. It also will make a difference where
the pump is located in reference to the boiler and return loop pipes,
but this will reduce your pumps to one.

Also be careful which type zone valves you use. Some manufacturers
use a motor driven valve stem that is at "locked rotor" all the time
the valve is energized which is very energy intensive. Some use a
thermal bi-metal element like a toaster timer which also can be very
energy intensive. Look for the small "ganged" zone valve packages
that have 4 to 6 valves in one block, all powered from a single door
bell size transformer. Any hydronic heating supplier will stock at
least one type of these valves.
