Notebook shopping [RE-wrenches]

William

One thing I've discovered is that you want to stick with an Intel machine
and avoid the Athlon products. The Athlon chips and chipsets use far more
energy than the Intel chips. When I did my bit on TechTV a few weeks ago we
initially set up with an Athlon desktop unit that kept crashing a 150 watt
inverter (it had a flat panel monitor) but it ran fine with an Intel. When
I put a Brand meter on it the Athlon desktop was using 160 watts while my
home desktop with an Intel PIII-450 and a flat panel uses about 85-90 watts.

We wound up running a laptop with an Intel chip and had no problems.
