You can do it today with Campbell Scientific data loggers and 
accessories.  Relatively easy to do, there's a number of options depending 
upon your budget.  These are the same loggers that power most remote 
weather stations so their geared to work in all kinds of extremes on tiny 
amounts of power.  I can help you put together a system if you're
