2005 NEC revisions [RE-wrenches]

Wrenches,

The process has begun to begin to draft proposed revisions to the NEC
article 690. Final proposals are due in November. If you have any
recommendations, you should send those recommendations to me, Allan
Sindelar, or anyone else you know who is on the review list, to submit to
the committee. There is nothing preventing someone from submitting a
proposal outside of this committee, or in opposition to this committee, but
the success rate for those types of proposals is extremely small. The main
reason for the high success rate of the committee is that the issue are
deliberated in detail and consensus is usually developed on the issues. The
Code Making Panel wants to see a large number of stakeholders signing on to
a proposal, and agreeing with good sense before they grant a change to the
code.

Proposals should include the following:

1.) Section for recommended change with new language provided.
2.) A paragraph explaining, in detail, the substantiation for the change.

There is a very crude draft document being circulated at the moment so the
time is now to get something. Proposals should be designed to solve problems
that inspectors are having interpreting the code and should not include
wishful thinking (e.g. "PV systems should not be governed by any code or
standard")

This is an opportunity for those working with inspectors on a regular basis
to clean up language that is causing misunderstandings and variations in
interpretation in the field.

Thanks for those that are interested,

Bill.
