utility obfuscation and obstruction [RE-wrenches]

Hi E.H.,

How can the NY utility stop you from using the AC2 input, or the AC1 input
in non-sell mode? At that point, you have installed a UPS system, with an
alternative source of battery charging. We did this with computer rooms all
the time. No utility approval required. Almost a "Don't ask, don't tell"
policy.

We're fighting NY right now with the Albany PowerLight installation, and
actually have the Governor's attention on it. Please send me (off-list) some
details on what's happening, and we'll try to get these in front of the same
folks.

Jeff

Kurt,

Thanks for your suggestion. Several New York utilities are not allowing any
connection to an SW inverter whatsoever - not even to ACIN2, so LBX is not
an option.

I got the impression that even Trace didn't think the LBX mode worked
effectively given the complexities of some parameters being temperature
compensated and some not. I always liked the concept but thought they
actually discouraged its use, so I am interested to hear that you have
employed it effectively.

I hope you have them in LBX. I have one customer who after operating
his system in LBX, decided they like it better than being grid-tied.
Perhaps not as efficient (although with no silent sell?), but at least
you're using the bulk of the energy. You can also stage a load or two
on and off the solar/grid (using the SW aux relays and contactors) to
try and make the system more efficient.
