Experience with 3 Phase High Leg Delta? [RE-wrenches]

Bill:

No problem, The Sunny Boy is Listed to work at 240 Vac line to line.

AS an aside, for big 3 phase systems with 277/480 service we suggest
using 3 277/240 autoformers and then running the inverters at 240 Line
to neutral.
This is more efficient since it is an autoformer and lets you get 2500
Watts out of the inverter.
The other approach is to use a 277/480 to 120/208 3 phase transformer
but this is more expensive, less efficient, and you have to run the
inverters at 2100 Watts ac out.

Best Regards,

John Berdner

Kent,

The original question was about this 240/120 delta system. Is there any
problem with simply connecting the Sunnyboy at the 240 voltage level
since it is single phase?

Bill.

Matt, et al,

>This reduces the kWH production due to the transformer losses and
raises >the installation costs, offsetting any savings you may have been
counting >on related to using the Sunny-Boy versus another Hi-Volt DC,
3-Phase AC >Inverter.

No angry words to you... Remember, I used to work the 3 phase side of
the biz. One thing to watch out for: If you have any Delta (open or
closed) system with a center tapped or corner ground, you may have
grounding problems with a 3 phase inverter. You will probably need an
isolation transformer between the inverter and the grounded Delta system
because of the ground loops caused by the grounded PV array. I've seen
many inverters go boom because of this. One more reason to dump the
grounded PV requirement.
