Homes with PV power [RE-wrenches]

Wrenches,

I wonder why more homebuilders are not incorporating PV into new home
construction. It seems pretty obvious this would be the most economical
means for wide spread PV usage especially if these homes are more
desirable and easier to sell. I am also wondering if the ultimate solar
suburb of the future may be comprised of blocks of homes with a house
missing on each block because that property is covered with PV. If an
average home requires 4kW of PV then an 80 kW centralized system for
each block of 20 homes would provide many benefits. If the price could
come down to $5.00 per watt for installation this would add $20,000 more
to the price of each home. The average homeowner may never receive an
electric bill from the local utility and the utility benefits by
receiving all the excess electricity generated during peak demand and
supplying it back at night. A nice green suburb.
