Wrenching in L.A. [RE-wrenches]

I decided to write and post information about the lockouts on my web
site, this is what it says:

WARNING – CUSTOMERS OF LADWP MUST READ

GO Solar has effectively stopped installing grid-connected solar systems
for customers of the Los Angeles DWP. This is due to it’s continued
policy of being honest with it’s customers. Once informed their new
system would be padlocked for an indeterminate period, prospective solar
consumers decide not to make the investment.

Beginning April 19th, 2002 LADWP began shutting off and putting padlocks
on these systems. After our customers spent thousands of dollars for a
system designed to save money, they are prevented from using their
investment and the savings it was designed to achieve at the insistence
of a labor union.

The lockout is the result of a demand by the IBEW-Lineman’s Union, who
are not trained to install these systems. Based upon GO Solar’s
intimate understanding of the politics of the issue, it does not foresee
an end to the lockout in the near future. This is most unfortunate at a
time when clean solar energy has become a viable efficient alternative.
The unions are squeezing this industry, for selfish reasons, which can
only result in substantial price increases and a probable end to the
potential for this clean reliable source of energy.

For those interested in promoting a clean, safe and environmentally
friendly source of energy, we urge you to write your representatives in
the State and Federal Government.
