Allan (and whoever else is interested),
OK, I'll do a little digging when I'm back in the office over the
weekend. Got a couple more questions first:
Do you want to use them on PV direct as well as battery? It affects the
input voltage range. For battery bank connection, I normally assume the
DC-DC input voltage should work up to 1.5 X nominal voltage. For PV
Direct, I would assume 2X.
What do you feel is the maximum acceptable idle power draw for the
converter? Like inverters, most of these devices will draw some current at
no load. To get around this, a lot of models have soft-start lines that
can be wired up to a control contact, like on an LCB. But others don't
have this option, so it's probably best to look at it both ways.
I took a quick look at some sites selling Wilmore converters. The ones I
saw look like full-fledged instruments, not components. Really nice, but
you're probably paying for a lot more product than you need. I think we
can dig up some better options among fully UL-listed components. Most will
need to be part of some larger system enclosure, preferably metal for heat
sinking. And they'll need their own fusing and/or disconnect. But that
shouldn't be a problem if it's designed in to a system.
