Jay: I have seen the same thing with THHN though I would never
advocate using it bare like that, the point is that its hard stuff
to kill. On the other hand, I occasionally service Solahart DHW
systems that have a backup heating element in them that is usually
fed by a run of EMT conduit and the EMT is looking horrible on some 8
year old systems. This is a few miles from the coast and the salt is
speeding up the deteriation.
I was suprised to hear William Miller say:

I cant say I've seen it fail but I've seen my share of it looking
like it spent time on the barbeque, completly browned and blistered
on the south facing side. Even Schedule 80 PVC starts looking that
way after 5 years around here (Santa Cruz,Ca).I like the idea of some
sort of flexible plastic shell over top of TC cable that could act as
as a UV barrier and blend into the roof visually, yet I dont know if
