<snip>
I am not privy to the Xantrex/UL problem, but it looks like the result
of poor
communications between the vendor (UL) and the customer (Xantrex). I
can't
imagine what Xantrex did to anger or frighten UL into warning the public
about
its customer's products. <snip>
Here's my guess...UL contacted Trace with some questions that were
raised by the new IEEE 929 test procedure. Trace, per usual since the
Xantrex buyout, responded with lawyers first, rather than engineering.
This seriously angered and/or challenged the authority of somebody at UL
who responded with, "Oh yeah? We'll see about THAT!" And here we are.
I repeat, this is my best guess. I've got no more insight into how this
developed than the rest of us wrenches. But this scenario jives with
the kind of behavior we've seen from Xantrex. When you've got lots of
lawyers, and not nearly enough engineers, you work with what you've got,
right?
I used to have the utmost respect for Trace Engineering and sold their
products with pride and faith. But since the Xantrex takeover, it's been
a steady downhill trip. There's some great people still working for
them (Pagan and Ezra come to mind immediately), but it feels like the
company is running strictly on inertia now. Come on Xantrex, toss a few
of those fancy lawyers and hire some engineers!
Best regards,
