Hi Bill,

Thanks for your good explanation.  Out of phase current rushes through the 
resistance of the windings and gives off heat at the zero crossing point of 
the utility.  The impulses are out of phase.

It would seem like we would lose out on the power factor also when the wave 
forms from the utility and inverter don't match up?  Isn't there imaginary 
power (VAR) running around in the system?
