You only have one real answer but it is fairly expensive.  Polyphaser has an
in line (series as opposed to the parallel MOV type) surge arrestor.  These
units are built for DC circuits only and as such have low clamping voltages.
For example, a nominal 24VDC array would use the IS-35VDC-(amp rating)-NG
with a clamping voltage of 53VDC.  A 48V nominal array would require the
IS-60VDC-(amp rating)-NG with a clamping voltage of 100VDC.  Polyphaser can
