    If I understand him correctly, according to John Wiles the array would
be described in the code as a "separately derived structure" in your
application. It is correct to eliminate the grounding conductor between two
buildings (or, in this case, between the array and the building), provided
that each structure is separately grounded to a rod AND the DC
negative-to-ground bonding issue is resolved, whether through bonding the
array input negative or by breaking both ungrounded conductors with a 2-pole
disconnect. The way you are describing would make your approach
non-compliant, although it makes "common-sense" sense to me.
