To be totally code compliant, you would have to ground all your metal
boxes (equipment grounds), but not necessarily the negative leg of
the system. Two wire DC circuits below 50V need not be grounded.
However, elsewhere in the code it says that you need a over current
device in ALL ungrounded conductors. Wiles and company (the Code
Fundamentalists) interpret that to mean a fuse or CB in both the
positive and negative wires. Ridiculous? Certainly. Stupidity?
Depends on who you talk to. I think so.
