Hi Bill,
Are you looking for something that brings it's combustion air in from the
outside? I don't know of any water heaters that do that. Of course its'
common with many of the high eff. gas furnaces. They are efficient enough
to be vented in PVC pipe.
Aquastar makes a 125 model that is specifically designed for solar preheated
water. 125BS (I think). The main draw back of it is that it maintains the
standing pilot light which turns a 80% efficient appliance into a device
with a energy factor of .69 which is not that much better than todays best
tanked gas water heaters. The Takagi Flash can modulate down to ~30,000
BTU's which by my estimatation would heat solar pre-heated water into
scalding water for the unsuspecting user. The Takagi does have an optional
remote temp adjusting accessory that from I can tell (never tried it) might
allow you to adjust it down to where it doesn't add any heat to adequately
preheated water. Most likely, I am confused about your question as CEC
sells both those products.
Travis

Subject: Myson Tankless heater source? [RE-wrenches]
Hi gang,
Does anyone know the availability of a tankless direct vent gas heater
capable of using preheated water?
The customer is familiar with the CEC offerings and none of their products
will fit this application.
Thanks,
Bill Loesch
