slip rings [RE-wrenches]

Sometimes I get convinced that we Americans are getting lazy, I don't see a
big deal on having to untwist the tower wires on occasion. I bet if the
tower is tall enough it will not twist the wires much, if at all. It is just
as apt to untwist at some point. Most of us generally get wind from
basically one general area, so what's the big deal? What we need is a
turbine that puts out reasonable power at the low wind speeds that most of
us live with, not a turbine that looks like a blur and does nothing.

If not having slip rings allows us to sell a turbine at a better price
great, build a tilt up tower with 3 - 4" of space at the pivot and you have
no problem.

Hope to see some of you in Vermont this weekend.
Those of you who don't know me, I am the big ugly fellow with the beard.

Just my thoughts,
Bob

My question is why not? If there is no problem, why spend any money
on a reliable solution? Good sliprings caused a big price rise at
Proven, and I have thus far had more problems with their sliprings
than I had with their cables (= none).

there are turbulent sites where the cables can cause a problem but
they are rare.
