Listen folks, I don't think that we should count on module prices going down
"a lot" in the next five years. Barring thin-film modules, like CdTe,
really fulfilling their long predicted I'd say pollyana potential to drive
down the cost of PV applications, the pricing for s-Si, pc-Si, mc-Si and
a-Si modules is not going to go down a lot in the next five years since
manufacturers are already expanding about as fast as they can. As long as
the worldwide demand continues to grow on the average of 34+ percent per
year (the 1997-2000 annual average), manufacturers will be hard pressed to
expand rapidly enough so that supply meets demand. Hey, remember that
so-called law of supply and demand? What happens to the price when demand
outstrips supply? Looking for a quantity purchase of modules these days?
Good luck. Be prepared to wait for months for your order to arrive. Plus,
with what's going on in CA. and Germany, not to mention Japan, these days
I'm afraid the supply situation is going to get tighter in the months to
come. And whaddya think is going to happen if the CA. Energy Commission
increases its buy-down rate for grid-connected PV? I'm afraid that we're
going to be in for some tough going in the months to come. GET YOUR PV
ORDERS IN NOW!!

"Since the industry is changing so fast, and panel
prices will most likely come down a lot in the next 5 years does it warrant
having a 25yr warranty? or going for less expensive panels with shorter
warranty
with replacement by significantly cheaper panels in some 5-10 yrs?"
