Since you ask, I have never ever had a problem using small bore 
copper tubing (as used here for central heating systems).  About 
5/16th bore for heavy DC stuff.  Cut about 1-1.5inches length of it 
and stuff the stripped wires into it.  Then crush in a skilled 
manner.  Tape or heat shrink if necessary.

Any joint is as good as the guy who does it in the end, I guess.  At 
least that's what I am told.
