William,

The person to talk to at Trace Tec. is Kent Sheldon, 925 245-5463,
kentsheldon at tracetec.com. You're right, it's rather frustrating that often
no live person answers the phone over there in Livermore is for lovers, CA.
Kent is usually good about returning emails.

Bill Brooks is probably one of the best authorities on these types of
systems. (Are you out there today, Bill?) For a nominal 12VDC module, the
series string will most likely be 24. For nominal 24VDC modules, such as
the new BP2150 150-watt modules, there will be 12 in series. For certain
applications (Bill and Kent help me out here), it may be possible to go up
to 25 12VDC modules in series.

Trace Tec. has a new (March 2001) 10-page technical description packet on
their PV 208 3-phase inverters. You can get it off their website
www.tracetec.com.

Friends:

I'm working on design for installation of some Trace Technologies PV series
3 phase inverters. I am trying to figure out how many panels to put in
series. I've called several numbers for Trace and left voice mail all over
the company but I can't seem to find a human being to talk to.

The specifications call for a MPPT tracking window of 300 to 480 VDC (360
nominal). The maximum open circuit voltage is 600 VDC. I made a
spreadsheet listing options of from 1 to 28 SR100 panels. I used the OC
voltage, the voltage at load (17.0 VDC) and nominal voltage. 28 panels in
series has an open circuit voltage of 604.8 VDC so that is one panel too
many. 25 in series has a nominal voltage of 300 VDC. So I am guessing it
has to be between 25 and 27 modules.

Has anyone else designed one of these systems yet? How many modules did
you calculate go in series?

Thanks in advance,

William Miller
