LED volt meter [RE-wrenches]

Sunamp has a "Battery Condition Meter" with a colored LED column that 
shows voltage and equates it on the scale with %. In the fine print 
or instructions somewhere it even says that the % is calibrated for 
battery that's been idle for X hours ... or something like that.

It may be cheap enough for your need.
