D.C. pumps and motors... [RE-wrenches]

I agree that DC pumps are really efficient on small off grid systems where
you are trying to limit inverter loads and standby losses, but we stopped
supplying exhaust fans furnished with DC motors. We were replacing brushes
in DC powered exhaust fans in greenhouses two times a season.  I like DC
motors for their torque at low speed and high energy efficiency, but if I
have a good inverter and reasonable array size I stay away from DC motor
driven equipment now and use high efficiency AC motors having a quality
start capacitor.
