Placement of lightning rods [RE-wrenches]

Dear Wrenches,

We have a couple of clients who have had some problems with lightning and
we are in the process of installing lightning rods.  Some of the smaller
roof tops, however, are pretty crowded with solar modules.  

1) What is the minimum safe distance that should be used to place the
lightning rod on the roof and keep the rod from being too close to the
modules?

2) How much higher should the lightning rod be from the modules?
