Wrench-Referrals list? [RE-wrenches]

Friends, I want to discuss one more time the possibility of creating a new list strictly for passing on leads.

The last time I brought it up there were some of you that were for it, but most of you that I heard from wanted to leave the referrals on the Wrenches list.

The reasons:

1. Cut down traffic on the RE-Wrenches list.

2. Security. RE-Wrenches is readable by anyone in the archives. That means that not only can RE-Wrench members respond to the leads, but so can anyone else. In addition, I am not comfortable with giving public access to these folks' private info. Put yourselves in their places and think about how you might feel if you were to find that your name and address had been made public as a result of an inquiry to a specific company.

3. Many of us have no interest in the leads, but are very much interested in everything else coming through the list.

Here is how it would work.

1. I set up the list to be for members only, which means nobody else gets to post, read, or join without permission.

2. The list would not be advertised anywhere, so we will not have to deal with outside requests to join or read. (Over 50% of my requests to join the RE-Wrenches list are unqualified.)

3. I would invite only installing dealers that are also on RE-Wrenches to subscribe. In other words, there is no need to add folks that are on the Wrench list that are with manufacturers or that do not need to find new customers.

Finally, for those of you that post prospects to the list, I have a couple of questions. Do you tell the person that you can't help them and that you are passing the contact info on to others that might? Do you ask permission to pass the info on?
