There's no end - I have another thought.

Don't know if the existing internal transfer relay could be set up this
way, or if it would take another, but how about having the inverter set
up so that if the inverter dies (or is shut off) the ac input is passed
thru to the ac output.  In other words, if the inverter craps out and
there is no inverter by-pass switch installed, the ac loads could still
be energized.  Perhaps the existing transfer relay could be utilized if
its coil was wired through a small DC powered relay -- Kurt Nelson
