surge protector [RE-wrenches]

We received a call yesterday from a customer with a question on the
compatibility of the power output of his SW4024 with a new APC surge
protector for his new computer. He said the APC unit had an indicator light
on warning of one of the following conditions. 1)no ground circuit.
2)neutral circuit overload. 3)reverse polarity in building wire.
He had checked out his wiring before calling me and it all looked good to
him. We had swapped in the SW inverter this August during an inverter
upgrade for his 6 year old system. His question is: could the Trace itself
cause the APC surge protector to have the error light?
Any insights, or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,

David Palumbo,
IP&L
