Smell in Low Keep freezer [RE-wrenches]

I have a customer with a 8 cu' Low Keep Tropical Freezer. It had a
distinctly stinky plastic smell when new which we tried to vent off and also
soak up with baking soda. Two years later the smell is still there and our
customer reports that it has gotten into the frozen food that has been in
there for close to a year. The smell was still there after cooking (chicken
I believe).
Any ideas what the smell is coming from and how to deal with it?
