Hello John,

I am looking at this in order to establish a c/10 or better charge rate
when both the inverter's charger and the MX60/rectifier are powered by
the generator. At present the inverters charger maxes out at c/14 (45
amps). There is plenty of generator left (it's an 8.5 kw) to gain the 15
amps I need from the MX60/rectifier to establish a combined c/10 or
better from both sources, and plenty of headroom in the single MX60 for
both PV and genny/rectifier/MX60(it's a 48 volt system). So it depends
on how much current you need to make up as to whether the third inverter
(just for battery charging) is justified. I like this idea a lot as a
charger assist to establish the ideal charge rate you're looking for.
It's not just for small generators with poor waveforms.

I think that once you are buying two MX 60's and two X240's to charge
from a
larger generator, it starts to look like just adding and FX inverter for

battery charging might be a lot easier. We are looking at doing this in
grid
tie installations with grid tie inverters. A third FX on a quad board
or
second inverter when one grid tie inverter is being used on a half rack
would
deal with the generator backup and would also be a backup inverter in
the event
that the grid tie inverter had problems during an outage. We are
planning to
use a 2nd bypass toggle to allow AC out to the subpanel to be
selectable from
the grid tie inverters or from the off-grid version. Does anyone see a

problem with this approach?
