   I have found that L16 batteries like to be cycled and have had  a high 
failure rate in backup installations where they have not been  cycled.  My most 
sucessful installation has been a bank of 24 L16's which  grid tied similar to 
yours where the customer turned off the grid for a full  discharge to 50% each 
month.  It was a test of his coasting time (about 4  to 5 days) and the total 
number of cycles is still very small relative the the  number of cycles the 
batteries should handle.  We have had numerous  failures ( dead cells ) on 
other systems.
